After reading and exploring blogs and web pages I have discovered that a main difference between the two are that web pages are created to be viewed and used by others by using the link and information already provided. Blogs are more interactive and collaborative. Individuals can comment to posts and each and every page created. Communication between both the creator and viewers of the blog can be seen on posts and also regulated by the administrator who created the blog. I created my own classroom website so that families and students could access information such as copies of homework, useful websites, and calendar dates. I used a blog during my TE 401 class when I was sharing a project and wanted feedback on my work and also for collaboration.
It's great to know that this is not your first exploration into the world of blogs. I would be curious to know how this technology was received by parents and students. Did you get a lot of feedback and input or did they mostly observe?
ReplyDeleteIt was mostly observation. However, I know of a school district that completes daily blogs about what happens so families can check each night for homework, what is going in the class, and also for dinner table conversation.
ReplyDeleteAlong the same lines, I have two classroom wikis that I have set up for my students and parents. At the beginning of the year, I invited my parents to join us online. So, far only 1 in 9 has taken advantage of the offer. I'm not sure if they just lack access to the Internet (rural community) or their private lives are just so busy they don't have the time to go online. Just wondering ~ Do your students mention visiting the web site?
ReplyDeleteMy students use the site mostly to access the sites in which we use in class. There are some typing sites that the students use to practice at home and other games. The families use it to look at our classroom calendar, assignments, and newsletters.
ReplyDeleteThat is as far as the communication with technology as gone in my classroom currently.
